No Bailout. It Screws U!

I spotted this politically-minded graffiti under the BQE in the desolate stretch of land that separates Carroll Gardens from Red Hook. A valiant attempt at grass-roots lobbying but I can't help but think it's somewhat poorly targeted to reach those in the seat of power. I'd love to know what passion possessed the outraged scribe to bust out his spray can and scrawl his message of protest on this column located in one of the most impoverished neighborhoods in New York.

Fallout From the Smoking Ban

At first I was puzzled why a bar (The Library on Ave A) inside which smoking was banned and that was surrounded by bodegas would be selling cigarettes. Then I realized that it was "dip". Hunh. This is after I was just told about the growing numbers of guys in my office who keep spit cups on their desks in which to expectorate their smokeless tobacco. Sometimes it seems like no one smokes anymore. Maybe it's because they're all chewing instead?

I like to think the bloody severed head just above one corner of the dip case was the bar's subtle editorial comment on what happens if you actually use the stuff.

Impromptu Dance Party At Black & White

After the Liars at McCarren Pool, which led seamlessly into post-show bingo in Greenpoint, and was capped off by devouring an entire pork shoulder Bo Ssam feast at Momofuku Ssam Bar, only 1 question remained: WHERE TO NEXT?!?! The show must go on, so we stumbled into Black & White bar on 10th street. When we first approached and the doorman said in an apologetic tone that they were hosting a private party, my normal pluckiness was placed aside and I was all-too-ready to take the dismissal as a sign that enough imbibing had taken place for one evening and head home. But just as I was about to thank the man and walk away, the doorman had a change of heart and said it seemed like we'd enjoy the party and should come inside. Well, fine then.

Just when I thought my fun quotient had been reached for the evening, this dancing queen kept me entertained for at least another hour into the night, as she got down to the DJ spinning records just outside the frame.

Tribeca, the Final Days

Tribeca Rock Club closed it's doors in early December.

One of the highlights of going to a show here was being greeted by the angel in a fur-hooded parka, Eddie Eyeball, a true legend in his own time.

"Give me my coat."

"Hello, lady."

Show's ever. Time to head back into the cold!

And from Tribeca's final night...

The band joins the crowd for a rousing celebration of rock n' roll!

In New York City...

...we keep fake animals in our parks.

...and travel around in giant silver bullets that shoot through underground tunnels located beneath the streets.

"Art"

This guy was in his skivvies across the street from my office on 17th street between 5th and 6th all day long on Friday. He was standing in a window, evoking what Amsterdam's Red Light district might be like if it was addressed to women's desires.
He was facing a TV screen that displayed the feed from an outward-pointing video camera focussed on the street in front of him. As pedestrians passed by, he aped whatever motions they displayed before the camera.

I was unable to telegraph my attraction for the camera to capture and so my lust went unmimicked. Here's to unfettered masculinity lain bare on manhattan streets in mid-day.

Oh, and last but not least, an ass-shot:
